Frequently Asked Questions
1. How does the program work?
We begin by learning about your student’s academic needs, current challenges, and goals. From there, we create a personalized support plan based on what your student needs most.
Depending on the program, sessions may include math tutoring, homework and assignment organization, time management, study skills, goal setting, accountability, and strategies for becoming a more independent student.
The goal is not simply to help students get through today’s homework. It is to help them develop skills they can continue using throughout middle school, high school, and beyond.
2. What is the difference between math tutoring and academic organization support?
Math tutoring focuses on understanding the subject. We work on math concepts, problem-solving, homework questions, skill gaps, and preparation for tests and assignments.
Academic organization support focuses on managing schoolwork. Students learn how to organize assignments, prioritize tasks, plan their week, manage time, start difficult assignments, keep track of deadlines, and follow through.
Some students need one service, while others benefit from both.
3. What grades and students do you work with?
Our programs are designed for students in grades 5–12.
We work with students who may be struggling with math, falling behind on assignments, having difficulty staying organized, procrastinating, feeling overwhelmed by schoolwork, or simply needing additional structure and accountability.
Students do not have to be failing to benefit from support. Sometimes a student has the ability but needs better systems, routines, and guidance to show what they can do.
4. Does my child need to have a diagnosed learning or attention disorder?
No.
Students do not need a diagnosis to benefit from academic organization or executive-function-based support. Many students simply struggle with planning, time management, organization, procrastination, task initiation, or keeping up with multiple assignments.
The program focuses on practical academic skills and strategies that can benefit a wide range of learners.
5. What skills can my student work on?
Depending on your student’s needs, we may work on:
Organization and assignment tracking
Time management
Planning the school week
Breaking large assignments into smaller steps
Getting started on difficult tasks
Reducing procrastination
Homework routines
Study skills
Test preparation
Note-taking
Goal setting
Accountability and follow-through
Math skills and problem-solving
Building confidence and independence
The focus is on teaching students how to manage their school responsibilities, not simply doing the work for them.
6. How involved are parents?
Parents are an important part of the process, particularly for students in grades 5–12.
Parent support may include discussing concerns, identifying goals, receiving progress updates, and learning strategies that can make homework and school routines easier at home.
One purpose of academic support is to reduce the amount of daily conflict between parents and students over homework, missing assignments, and school responsibilities. The goal is for the student to gradually take more ownership while the parent can step back from constantly reminding and monitoring.
7. Will you help my child with current homework and assignments?
Yes, when appropriate.
Current schoolwork can be used as a starting point for teaching academic skills. For example, a student may learn how to break down a large project, prioritize several assignments, understand a difficult math problem, or create a plan for completing missing work.
However, the goal is not to do the student’s work for them. We use their actual schoolwork as an opportunity to build skills, understanding, independence, and better habits.
8. How often should my student meet with you?
The recommended schedule depends on the student’s needs.
Some students may benefit from a weekly session to maintain organization and accountability. Students who are significantly behind, overwhelmed, or developing new routines may benefit from more frequent support.
During the initial consultation, we can discuss your student’s situation and determine what level of support makes sense.
9. What happens if my student does not want tutoring or coaching?
This is a common concern for parents.
The goal is not to lecture, pressure, or simply tell a student to “try harder.” We work to understand what is getting in the way and help the student identify practical strategies that feel manageable.
Students are more likely to participate when they understand why they are doing something and can see how the strategy helps them. We focus on small, achievable steps, accountability, and gradually building independence.
Parents should not have to spend every evening fighting with their child about homework.
10. What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged because the session time has been reserved specifically for your student.
Because services are scheduled and delivered as individual sessions or monthly packages, refunds are handled according to the specific package or service purchased. Any unused eligible sessions will be addressed according to the applicable package terms.
Before purchasing a package, parents will receive clear information about scheduling, cancellations, rescheduling, and refunds so there are no surprises.
